Little minds are always eager to learn and sometimes those things
are learned the hard way... for the little ones and their mom's.
I was out of the room for a minute... two minutes tops... fixing lunch for the girls. At this point Emma decided she wanted to learn about the warm mist humidifier. Since she has been on an independence kick, she thought it would be good to wait for me to leave the room to try it out. She found the on button, turned it on and reached into the steam cylinder. At this point I heard the shrieking and ran to her. Her entire hand was bright red and I immediately put it under cold water. After talking with the doctor, she seemed to calm down but the doctor wanted to check her anyways. As we were headed to the doctor, her pain elevated. I spoke with her doctor again and decided it would be best to bring her to the emergency room. She was such a brave little girl, letting the nurses and doctors examine her even though she was in a lot of pain. After taking medication and soaking her hand in cool water, it was determined she had first and second degree burns. For the last week, mom has played the role of nurse wrapping and changing her bandages. Thankfully she isn't in any pain, all of the blisters have broken, and there shouldn't be any scarring. A lot of lessons learned. Mom has become a helicopter parent, hovering over their every move. And we have been really working with hot and no touch... but Emma has a tendency to do what she wants when she wants. We need to work on that too :)
