Story Time

When I told Derek that we were going to be parents, his first thought was "Let's go buy the baby a book!" (at that point we didn't know there were two) So we headed to Borders and he picked Curious George to be their first book. He has been reading to them every night. The story is actually pretty disturbing, we must have the original edition... The Man in the Yellow Hat carries a rifle on his back, George was stolen from Africa and when he was in the hospital he got stoned on Ether. Um, what are we reading to our children??

2. click the "comment as" drop down menu and select name/url.
3. enter your name (you don't need to put a url) and click continue.
4. once your name shows up under the comment box, you can type your comment in the large white box.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you

We want to thank everyone for all the love, support and prayers over the last few months. It has been such a roller coaster but knowing that we have great family and friends to lean on is what has gotten us through.

We also want to thank all our visitors for coming to see us; grandmas, grandpas, great grandmas, aunties, uncles, great aunties, great uncles, cousins, and friends. Sorry, we don't have pictures of everyone but here's just a few:

ET

Emma has developed a hemangioma on the very tip of her left pointer finger. It's nothing serious and something that will disappear in a year or so. It reminds us of the character ET and the nickname is even funnier because in the hospital she had my last name which made her initials ET!

First Bath at Home

I did Emma's first bath at home by myself one afternoon.

She had just woke up and I thought it would be a good idea to start the bath. I picked her up and started towards the sink. Well, as I was making my way downstairs I realized I needed to get the big bath towel to put under her. Once I had that I went down to the sink. At that point I thought to myself... Hmm I should have prepared a little better. I was used to doing this at the hospital where everything is all near the sink and ready to go.

I put the bath towel down first, placed her on top and got her undressed. Before she came home, I made a bath caddy that has all of the essentials for bath time. Well, again I wasn't thinking and had it all the way on the other side of the kitchen. So I bundled her up, got the caddy and started to get the water ready. When everything was set I unwrapped her to find a nice poop she left for me in her towel. At least it wasn't in the water, right? I took the dirty towel and threw it on the floor. We continued on with her bath and everything went smoothly. Cleaned her, washed her hair and warmed her up with a fresh towel.

Then I looked down and realized I had stepped in baby poop.

Meow

Derek took the late shift one night and when I woke up in the morning this is what I found:

I don't think the pictures do it justice, but to show you exactly how big this outfit is I wanted to give you some perspective:

Derek's defense:
It was late, Emma had peed through her outfit and he couldn't find anything that fit. Nice job dad to making it work and to making me smile after a long night :)

Tiny Emma swimming in a huge cheetah outfit - Ha!

Big Sisters

Charlotte has loved her little sisters from the moment she first sniffed an outfit we brought home from the hospital. Penne... not so much. When we brought Emma home, their reactions were very predictable. With Charlotte it was love at first sight, Penne couldn't be bothered. Every morning Charlotte loves to go into their room and give Emma kisses on her head. She is so gentle and sweet. After she gives kisses she will usually take a look in the crib and then lay on my feet or right in front of the crib. Penne is a snob. She is not on board with this whole baby thing.

EXCEPT, I did catch her looking into the crib one afternoon...

and she did climb into one of the baby bouncers to test it out. I think she will eventually come around!

Twins

This is the first picture we've gotten with both of the girls in matching outfits! This was attempted a few weeks ago but we were changing Emma's diaper and she pooped on it.

Evicted - 8/29/10

Emma has officially been discharged from the hospital! We got to take her home on Sunday and she has been adjusting nicely. We still pack up and visit Amelia everyday. The nurses have left Emma's bed and linens so that when we visit Emma has a place to stay. We are hoping to have Amelia home soon!

Dear Amelia and Emma,

I can't believe an entire month has already passed. Your Dad and I entered into this not really knowing what to expect and had absolutely no idea how to be a parent. The last month has taught us many things; that you can be so in love with someone you only just met, how to deal with things that are out of your control and that we will be talking a lot about poop - even more than we used to! It has been the happiest, scariest and the most surreal time of our life but we wouldn't change it for the world.

Amelia, the littlest big sister. The first time I saw you was a couple hours after you were born, you were in the NICU lying on a warming table. You were so tiny and absolutely precious. I wasn't able to hold you then, but I did reach over and touch your hand and you held my finger! Although I didn't get to visit with you and your sister long, it will forever be one of the best moments in my life.

Over this first month you have changed so much, we can't believe what a perfect little lady you are growing up to be. You make the most expressive faces, you can go from smiling to frowning and back again in a matter of seconds. You make this face where you stick out your tiny tongue and look up to the left. You are being hilarious and you don't even know it, you get that from your dad! Even though you are smaller than your sister you won't let that stop you. You are a fighter and I absolutely love that about you.

Emma, the biggest little sister. The first time I saw you was also a couple hours after you were born, I was very fortunate to be able to take you out from the warming table and hold you for the first time. Even though you were so little and I was so nervous, it was such a great moment. The very cool thing about it was I looked up at the clock and it was midnight, which meant it was my 30th birthday. What a great birthday present!

Over this first month you have also changed so much. You have this laid back personality where nothing really bothers you. You take your time eating but you always finish. The thing you love most is to be swaddled like a baby burrito. You are a very stinky baby, I am always surprised at how such a big stink could come from such a small baby. You are always cracking smiles, even though they are probably from the gas I like to pretend that you are smiling back at me. They melt my heart.

Amelia and Emma, Dad and I are so proud of how big you've both grown. Happy one month birthday Amelia Bedelia and Emma B. We can't imagine life without you.

Love,
Mom
